Maintaining battery and pneumatic strapping tools

Most faults we see could have been avoided with simple cleaning. Here are tips for each type.

Battery tools

  • Battery: charge it fully before first use and don't leave it flat for long. Store it somewhere with a moderate temperature.
  • Tension wheel: it clogs with strap debris over time and the strap slips. Clean it weekly with a soft wire brush.
  • Welding: if welds are weak, raise weld time a little before raising tension.

Pneumatic tools

  • Drain the water from the compressor tank daily.
  • Fit a filter-lubricator on the air line and fill it with air-tool oil.
  • Run at the pressure in the manual. Extra pressure doesn't give better tension; it wears the tool.

Semi-automatic carton machines

  • Clean plastic residue off the heater and cutter.
  • Use correctly sized machine-grade strap; hand-grade strap jams.
  • Don't leave the machine heated and idle for long periods.

Hand tools

  • Clean debris off the tensioner teeth and put a drop of oil on the joints.
  • If the teeth are worn, replace them instead of pulling harder.

Spare parts

Gears, tension wheels and cutters wear with use. If the strap slips or the cut isn't clean, the part probably needs replacing. Send us a photo of the part and the tool model and we'll check spare parts.
